Quick veterans face rising violence in The Hague amateur football

Veteran football players at the Quick club in The Hague are facing increasing levels of verbal abuse, spitting, and physical violence during amateur matches. According to team captain Freek van Duuren, unpleasant incidents occur in approximately seven out of ten away games, sometimes leading to matches being halted.

While some players have chosen to leave the club or join alternative, segregated leagues designed to avoid conflict, the majority of the Quick veterans intend to remain in the existing competition. The club serves as one of the few remaining spaces in the city where different social backgrounds and neighborhoods intersect, though tensions between clubs from diverse areas of The Hague persist.

Past incidents include a youth match that required a large police presence at neighboring club HBS, and a recent low point where a player was spat upon by an opposing captain.
