QUICKSURFACE to introduce AI-driven reverse engineering technology

QUICKSURFACE is expanding its reverse engineering software capabilities by integrating artificial intelligence to accelerate the conversion of 3D scans into editable CAD models. The upcoming 2027 version of the software, which includes these new AI technologies, is scheduled to be presented at the Formnext exhibition in Frankfurt on November 17, 2026.

The software aims to bridge the gap between unstructured STL polygon meshes and manufacturing-ready CAD data. By utilizing hybrid modeling, it combines mathematically exact geometries for fittings and bores with organic freeform surfaces for complex parts. This process allows engineers to reconstruct the original design intent by computationally filtering out defects such as material loss, warping, or dents found in worn components.

Currently used in mechanical engineering, automotive supply, tool and mold making, and medical technology, the tool produces clean STEP or IGES models compatible with standard CAD systems like SolidWorks, Inventor, and Fusion 360. The integrated analysis module provides real-time control via color mapping to show deviations between the CAD model and the original scan.
