Quiet Thriving emerges as new workplace trend
A new workplace concept known as ‘Quiet Thriving’ is emerging as a positive alternative to the previous trend of ‘Quiet Quitting’. While ‘Quiet Quitting’ involved employees doing the bare minimum due to disengagement, ‘Quiet Thriving’ describes a mindset where workers proactively seek to make their jobs more interesting, meaningful, and aligned with their personal values.
The shift follows a period of significant workforce disengagement. According to Gallup data from September 2022, at least 50% of the US workforce experienced disinterest or lack of motivation. This trend gained massive social media traction, with the #quietquitting hashtag reaching 445 million views on TikTok in 2022.
Factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic prompted many to re-evaluate the role of work in their overall lives. This is particularly evident among Gen Z, for whom personal identity, sustainability, and the alignment of corporate and personal values are critical drivers of workplace engagement.
