Quilapayún to celebrate 60 years in Punta Arenas

The renowned Chilean musical group Quilapayún will perform in Punta Arenas on September 26 to celebrate their 60th anniversary. The concert, titled ‘Cantata Santa María de Iquique y Canciones para Levantar Vuelo’, will take place at the Gimnasio Confederación Deportiva de Magallanes.

Formed in Santiago in 1965, Quilapayún is a leading figure of the ‘Nueva Canción Chilena’ movement. The group has previously been led by artistic directors such as Ángel Parra and Víctor Jara. A central part of the upcoming performance will be the ‘Cantata Santa María de Iquique’, a work composed by Luis Advis that commemorates the 1907 massacre at the Santa María School in Iquique.
