Quilicura mayor requests military support after violent symbolic wake

A symbolic wake in the Parinacota sector of Quilicura, Chile, was marked by gunfire, fireworks, and the burning of a vehicle during the early hours of Wednesday. The event served as a precursor to a high-risk funeral for a 20-year-old man murdered on September 12. Due to the danger posed by organized crime, the victim's body remains at the Servicio Médico Legal.

Quilicura Mayor Paulina Bobadilla has urgently requested a police takeover and potential military support to protect residents. She noted that the community is living in fear, citing an incident where a stray bullet landed near a child. Bobadilla emphasized that the municipality lacks the necessary tools to confront organized crime alone and called for immediate intervention from national authorities and the Ministerio Público.
