Quillota leaders demand toll reductions on Ruta 60 CH

Authorities in the Valparaíso Region are demanding toll reductions on Ruta 60 CH, arguing that recent government announcements regarding highway tariff decreases unfairly benefit only the Metropolitan Region.

Quillota Mayor Luis Mella criticized the decision to lower Autopista Central rates by up to 25% while leaving the Troncal Quillota unaffected. He noted that residents in the area face the most expensive tolls in Chile, which are adjusted annually based on the IPC plus an additional 3.5%—a mechanism he claims was removed from Santiago's highways years ago.

Deputy Sofía González has joined the call for action, demanding a review of the Public Works Concessions Law. She argued that the current system places a heavy financial burden on citizens who must pay to commute for work and school, especially amidst a rising cost of living. González and other regional leaders are seeking greater state tools to oversee concessions and ensure equitable treatment for those outside the capital.
