Quilmes Atlético Club fans celebrate historic supporter tradition

August 19 marks the ‘Día del Hincha de Quilmes Atlético Club’, a day dedicated to the supporters of the Argentine club. The celebration commemorates a historic event from August 19, 1961, during a match against Banfield.

During that match, Quilmes fans introduced a pioneering tradition by throwing massive amounts of paper scraps and newspaper clippings onto the pitch as the players entered. This gesture became a defining element of Argentine football folklore, eventually being adopted by clubs across the country. The match itself concluded in a 1-0 victory for Quilmes, secured by a free-kick goal from striker Ángel Eduardo Del Moro.
