Quilmes celebrates 210th Argentine Independence anniversary with Peña 360 event

Provincial deputy Mayra Mendoza and interim mayor Eva Mieri led a Peña 360 cultural program in Quilmes, Argentina, to mark the 210th anniversary of the Argentine Declaration of Independence and the 360th anniversary of the city. The event took place at the Museo Histórico del Transporte “Carlos Hillner Decoud” in Quilmes Oeste and featured musicians, folk ballets, traditionalist groups, local gastronomy and a display of historic carriages. A blessing was offered by Father Guillermo López on behalf of the Quilmes Diocese. Municipal officials, security forces, veterans of the Falklands War and many residents attended.

During speeches, Mendoza praised former president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, describing her as “innocent” and “captured by power,” and urged that her detention undermines Argentine democracy. Mieri emphasized the importance of liberty, sovereignty and community spirit, linking the celebrations to the city’s historic resistance.

The program aimed to foster popular participation, cultural heritage and solidarity, aligning the historical significance of national independence with local identity.
