Quilombola representative participates in Rio Innovation Week

Bia Nunes, president of the State Association of Quilombola Communities (ACQUILERJ), participated in the Rio Innovation Week to represent quilombola populations. Speaking on the panel “Mulheridades: como se constroem políticas de gênero no século XXI,” Nunes emphasized that innovation is deeply rooted in ancestrality.

Nunes highlighted that quilombola peoples have developed ancestral technologies and innovations since ancient times, derived from knowledge of the land, water management, biodiversity preservation, traditional agriculture, popular medicine, architecture, and community organization. She stated, “To speak of innovation is also to recognize the collective intelligence of our ancestors, who created sustainable solutions long before this concept gained space in major debates.”

The Rio Innovation Week is a major global technology and innovation conference featuring various international speakers and artists.
