Quilombola voters in Brazil nearly double for 2026 elections

The number of voters identifying as quilombola in Brazil has nearly doubled between the 2024 municipal elections and 2026, according to data from the Tribunal Superior Eleitoral. The count rose from 95,409 to 188,371 individuals.

In the state of Goiás, the quilombola electorate grew from 3,625 to 5,394. Community members, including young first-time voters and elders, express a strong commitment to participating in the democratic process to protect their community's interests and future.
