Quinn Hughes' contract uncertainty fuels NHL speculation

The future of defenseman Quinn Hughes remains uncertain as he nears the end of his current contract with the Minnesota Wild. Despite a strong start to the season, Hughes has not yet signed a long-term extension, leading to speculation regarding his next destination.

Some analysts suggest that Hughes may be seeking a way to play alongside his brothers, Jack and Luke Hughes. While many assume this would lead him to the New Jersey Devils, there is speculation that the brothers could potentially reunite at a different NHL franchise.

The uncertainty follows a blockbuster trade in which the Minnesota Wild acquired Hughes from the Vancouver Canucks. The trade cost Minnesota significant assets, including defenseman Zeev Buium, center Marco Rossi, Liam Ohgren, and a 2026 first-round draft pick. The lack of a contract extension has prompted discussions regarding whether the Canucks' decision to trade him was justified given the risk of losing him upon his free agency.
