Quinn Hughes addresses Minnesota Wild contract extension status

Minnesota Wild defenseman Quinn Hughes has addressed the ongoing speculation regarding his contract extension. Speaking at the NHL Player Media Tour in Las Vegas, Hughes stated that he is in no rush to sign a new deal before training camp begins.

Hughes, who is entering the final year of his current contract and could become an unrestricted free agent in July 2027, emphasized that he wants to be thoughtful about his decision. “This is going to be done whenever I feel like it needs to be done,” he said, adding that he does not feel “backed up against a wall.” He noted that negotiations have been limited because he chose to focus on resting and spending time with family during the summer.

While Hughes expressed that he enjoys playing in Minnesota and sees himself staying with the organization, rumors persist regarding his long-term future. Some speculation suggests a potential move to the New Jersey Devils to play alongside his brothers, Jack and Luke Hughes. Analysts also noted that a new contract for Hughes could potentially set a new salary benchmark in the NHL, following recent massive extensions for other elite players like Cale Makar.
