Quinn Hughes discusses contract status at Wild training camp

Minnesota Wild star defenseman Quinn Hughes addressed his ongoing contract negotiations during the team’s first training camp practice in St. Paul. Hughes is currently in the final year of his contract, which carries a $7.85 million salary cap hit.

Despite fan anxiety regarding the lack of an extension, Hughes stated he is satisfied with the organization and does not feel pressured to finalize a deal before the regular season begins on October 1. He noted that while his agent, Pat Brisson, and General Manager Bill Guerin have initiated talks, he has not focused heavily on his future during the summer.

Speculation has surrounded the potential value of a new deal, especially following Cale Makar’s recent record-breaking contract with the Colorado Avalanche. Hughes also addressed rumors regarding playing alongside his brothers, Jack and Luke Hughes, stating that while there is a draw to playing with them, he is happy with his current situation in Minnesota.
