Democratic Socialists of America see 59% support among Democrats

A Quinnipiac University poll indicates that 59% of registered Democratic voters identify as supporters of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). However, the organization's influence is less pronounced among the general electorate, where only 26% of all registered voters identify as DSA supporters.

The survey highlights a potential electoral challenge for the group: while many Democrats support the organization, 43% of total respondents stated that a candidate identifying as a DSA supporter would make them less likely to vote for that candidate, compared to only 17% who would be more likely.

The DSA has seen recent success in Democratic primaries, with candidates such as Darializa Avila Chevalier, Melat Kiros, and Donavan McKinney winning seats. The organization has also introduced a new platform titled ‘Workers Deserve More,’ which proposes creating a democratic socialist republic. This platform has drawn criticism from Republican leaders, including House Speaker Mike Johnson.

Historically, the DSA gained significant visibility following Bernie Sanders’s 2016 presidential campaign and the election of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in 2018. The group continues to influence the Democratic Party by participating in primary elections to promote progressive values.
