Quinoa cultivation shows potential for Boeotia producers

Quinoa is emerging as a promising alternative crop for producers in Boeotia, Greece. Despite facing adverse weather conditions during the germination phase, local producer Andreas Tselos reported yields of approximately 250 kilograms per stremma with only a single irrigation.

As an alternative to traditional crops, quinoa offers potential benefits in a climate of rising production costs and environmental pressures. The crop can utilize soils that are not considered highly productive, creating added value per unit of area. Additionally, quinoa requires fewer agrochemical inputs, which helps reduce production costs and supports environmental protection.

While the crop is gaining a foothold in the regional and national agricultural landscape, it remains in an adaptation phase. Further development will require increased technical knowledge among producers and the integration of new technologies to improve productivity and manage costs.
