Quinoa identified by dietitians as helpful carbohydrate for weight loss
Dietitians suggest that carbohydrates do not need to be eliminated for weight loss, highlighting quinoa as a beneficial option for a balanced diet. Quinoa is noted for its high protein and fiber content, which helps prolong satiety and may stimulate the release of the GLP-1 hormone to regulate appetite.
A 185-gram serving of cooked quinoa contains approximately eight grams of protein and five grams of fiber. Experts note that this fiber content is roughly double that of an equivalent amount of cooked broccoli. Additionally, quinoa provides higher levels of iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, and folate compared to brown rice, despite having a similar caloric value.
For long-term weight management, professionals emphasize choosing nutrient-dense foods that promote fullness rather than total carbohydrate restriction. They also stress the importance of regular physical activity, quality sleep, and proper hydration.
