Quintana Roo agencies sign conservation pact for Xcacel-Xcacelito sanctuary

The Institute of Biodiversity and Protected Natural Areas of Quintana Roo (IBANQROO), the Secretariat of Ecology and Environment (SEMA), and the Autonomous University of the State of Quintana Roo (UQROO) have signed a management and protection agreement for university-owned lands.

The agreement specifically covers the Xcacel-Xcacelito Protected Natural Area, which is designated as an Ecological Conservation Zone and Sea Turtle Sanctuary. This partnership formalizes state environmental management of the university's properties to ensure effective management programs, active surveillance, and the preservation of coastal and terrestrial zones used by nesting sea turtles.

The framework aims to provide legal certainty for inter-institutional coordination, ensuring the land is used strictly for conservation, research, and environmental education. It also creates opportunities for students and researchers to participate in biological monitoring and long-term conservation programs.
