Quintana Roo and Yucatán authorities launch new security and forensic initiatives

In Quintana Roo, the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) has announced intensified investigations into pawn shops and commercial establishments following the feminicide of a 15-year-old girl in Cancún. Authorities identified Miguel Salvador “N” as the suspect, who allegedly entered the victim's home to steal electronics and a watch, subsequently strangling her when discovered. The stolen items were later sold at a pawn shop and a mobile phone store.

In Yucatán, the FGE has begun the installation of a new Forensic Science Laboratory in Valladolid. This facility, located at the Integral Public Security Center, aims to decentralize specialized services and reduce the need to transport evidence and personnel to Mérida. The laboratory will offer services in field criminalistics, forensic psychology, and forensic chemistry, with completion expected by late September.

Additionally, the Quintana Roo FGE reported a 60 percent reduction in intentional homicide victims in ten municipalities due to internal restructuring and the implementation of a crime atlas.
