Quintana Roo electoral authorities prepare for 2027 elections

The Electoral Institute of Quintana Roo (IEQROO) has initiated preparations for the 2027 local electoral process. The institute is currently recruiting for 152 positions across 15 district and 4 municipal councils. While 4,335 people have registered, only 109 have successfully completed the process. These roles, which include council presidents and secretaries, offer monthly salaries ranging from 21,600 to 23,490 pesos.

To ensure operational coordination, the IEQROO General Council unanimously approved a collaboration agreement with the National Electoral Institute (INE). This agreement will define responsibilities regarding the electoral roll, logistics, training, and vote counting for the elections scheduled for June 6, 2027. The upcoming elections will determine the state's governor, local deputies, and the 11 municipal governments.

In a separate political development, the PRI in Quintana Roo has proposed that IEQROO restrict the use of mobile phones within voting booths. The initiative aims to prevent citizens from photographing ballots, which the party argues could compromise the freedom of the vote and electoral transparency.
