Quintana Roo Governor inaugurates indigenous student housing in Chetumal
Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa has formally inaugurated the Indigenous University Student House in Chetumal, Quintana Roo. The facility has been rehabilitated and equipped to provide housing, meals, and study spaces for 100 indigenous students, split equally between 50 men and 50 women.
The project involved a two-stage restoration process. The first stage focused on administrative infrastructure, service installations, and dormitories, including electrical, plumbing, and waterproofing work. The second stage completed the general rehabilitation, exterior works, and full equipment of the building.
Lezama noted that while the facility was originally inaugurated in 2018, it never opened due to previous mismanagement and the dismantling of its installations. The reopening is part of a broader educational policy in the Othón P. Blanco region, which has seen 177 educational infrastructure actions between 2022 and 2026.
