Quintana Roo Governor launches hurricane and child safety initiatives

Governor Mara Lezama of Quintana Roo, together with municipal president Mary Hernández, led a coordinated effort to strengthen hurricane‑season preparedness for 2026. Officials inspected anti‑cyclone shelters, reviewed emergency protocols, and reinforced evacuation routes and communication systems to protect communities in the Maya region.

In parallel, Lezama partnered with UNICEF, the state DIF system, tourism authorities, and private sector representatives to unveil the “Cero Tolerancia: Tarjeta Roja” (Zero Tolerance: Red Card) campaign. The strategy aims to prevent, detect, and report sexual exploitation of children and adolescents in the context of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, training tourism workers and the public to recognize and act on risks.

Both initiatives emphasize early action, community involvement, and inter‑agency coordination to safeguard residents and visitors in Quintana Roo.
