Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama Advances New Hospitals and Child‑Care Centers

Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa met with IMSS director Javier Guerrero García to review a slate of health‑infrastructure projects in Quintana Roo. The state will build a new Unidad de Diagnóstico y Tratamiento Ambulatorio in Cancún, the first outpatient diagnostic and treatment facility of its kind in Mexico. Plans are also under way to replace the Hospital General de Zona in Chetumal, with capacity potentially increasing from 90 to 120 beds, and to construct a new Hospital General in Cozumel, which could expand from 72 to 90 beds to meet growing demand.

In parallel, the administration will launch the first Centers of Education and Child Care (CECI) in the municipalities of Playa del Carmen, Benito Juárez and Cozumel, aimed at providing early‑education and childcare services for working families. Lezama said the projects are part of coordinated efforts with the federal government to improve medical and social services for residents and tourists in the region.
