Quintana Roo parents seek school and shift changes

Parents in the northern zone of Quintana Roo are increasingly requesting school and shift changes nearly a month after the start of the academic year. According to Luis Alberto Tun Calderón, subsecretary of Education for the Northern Zone, approximately 30 families visit the Secretariat of Education (SEQ) offices daily to seek adjustments.

Common reasons for these requests include work schedules that conflict with school hours, long commuting distances, and the desire for siblings to attend the same institution. The demand is particularly high in the outskirts of Cancún, where rapid residential development and population growth have created a greater need for educational spaces.

Additionally, the state is managing a floating population of students arriving from other parts of Mexico and other countries. The SEQ is addressing these needs through its ‘Padres en Línea’ digital platform or via in-person assistance at the School Control area to ensure all children have access to education.
