Mexico road accidents and tourism trends rise in southeast

Mexico's southeastern regions, particularly Quintana Roo and Yucatán, are experiencing a surge in road accidents and fatalities during the summer vacation period. In Yucatán, the death toll from traffic incidents has reached 29 people, with motorcyclists accounting for the majority of victims.

In Cancún, a series of fatal accidents has been reported, including a luxury vehicle crash in the hotel zone and collisions on major avenues, often attributed to speeding. Conversely, the Cruz Roja reports that accidents on the Colosio Boulevard have decreased following recent repaving efforts.

In Tulum, a decline in tourism is also reflected in a significant drop in solid waste collection, falling from up to 8,000 tons per month to approximately 3,000 tons. Meanwhile, the Ángeles Verdes corporation has provided roadside assistance to over 800 tourists in Quintana Roo, primarily addressing mechanical failures on the Cancún-Tulum highway.

Other regional incidents include a vehicle rollover in Nuevo Nayarit, a storm-related rescue in Colima, and multiple fatalities in Tizimín, Yucatán, involving individuals found deceased in separate locations.
