Quintana Roo reports over 1,000 depression diagnoses

Quintana Roo has recorded 1,057 diagnoses of depression through epidemiological week 38, according to the federal Ministry of Health's Epidemiological Bulletin. Of these cases, 758 are women and 299 are men, representing an increase from the previous week's figures of 729 women and 292 men.

Health specialists and authorities have emphasized the need to strengthen psychological and psychiatric care. Héctor González, the municipal health director for Benito Juárez, noted that a significant portion of services provided at municipal units are related to mental health issues.

Psychologist Soilo Salazar identified several contributing factors, including pandemic aftermath, job loss, economic uncertainty, and social media pressure. Salazar stressed that mental well-being must be recognized as an essential dimension of overall health, rather than focusing solely on physical ailments.
