Quintana Roo reports significant formal employment growth

Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa announced that Quintana Roo has reached 559,871 formal jobs registered with the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) as of September 2026. The state recorded a 6.7% increase in formal employment compared to the same month in 2025, a growth rate more than four times the national average of 1.6%.

Among regional states including Campeche, Tabasco, and Yucatán, Quintana Roo showed the highest annual growth. Lezama noted that the state's economic performance aims to distribute opportunities across all municipalities rather than concentrating them solely in major tourist destinations.

In a separate initiative to promote economic autonomy, the state has launched the FORO 2026 program under the FARO del Bienestar framework. The program aims to provide sewing machines to 5,800 women across 11 municipalities to encourage self-employment in trades such as garment making and embroidery. The first phase included the delivery of 100 machines to beneficiaries in Othón P. Blanco, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, and José María Morelos.
