Quintana Roo towns launch security initiatives for summer tourists
The municipal government of Isla Mujeres opened its summer vacation security operation, coordinating federal, state and local agencies. More than 1,129 personnel from the Navy, Army, National Guard, state security, civil protection and other services will patrol beaches, roads, ports and public spaces to protect residents and the thousands of visitors expected this season.
In nearby Puerto Morelos, Mayor Blanca Merari supervised the installation of six Smart Monitoring Points that add 30 new surveillance cameras to the municipal command centre. The mayor said, “Hoy nos encontramos aquí… la tranquilidad de las familias… siempre será una prioridad,” noting that the system will enable faster emergency response and stronger preventive patrols for locals, workers and tourists.
