Quintessent raises $40 million to advance AI optical interconnect technology

Quintessent has secured $40 million in an oversubscribed Series A funding round to advance its optical interconnect technology for AI datacenters. The investment round was led by Cycle Capital, with participation from Goldman Sachs XIG-Industry Ventures, Hina Liberty Capital, Susquehanna International Group, InterVest, Safar Partners, and Ciena, alongside several existing investors.

Alongside the funding, the company has begun customer sampling of its single-chip quantum dot-based DWDM comb laser. This technology is designed to simplify optical connectivity for scaling AI clusters by generating eight precisely spaced wavelengths from a single laser with a single bias control. This approach aims to eliminate the need for banks of individually tuned lasers and complex wavelength-control electronics.

By utilizing Gallium Arsenide O-band quantum dot gain material instead of the industry-standard Indium Phosphide, Quintessent seeks to bypass current supply chain constraints. The company claims this architecture can enable up to a 40% reduction in data-movement power compared to existing architectures while improving reliability and manufacturing scalability.
