Quito authorities close spa following safety and licensing violations

Authorities in Quito have closed a spa in the La Magdalena sector following an inspection that revealed significant safety hazards and licensing violations. During an operation by the Agencia Metropolitana de Control (AMC), officials discovered that the establishment, identified as Sauna La Estancia, was conducting economic activities different from those authorized under its Unique License for Economic Activities (LUAE).

In addition to the licensing discrepancies, the Quito Fire Department identified dangerous conditions within the facility, including faulty gas connections, electrical issues, and inadequate fire extinguishers and signage. The inspection took place during an event attended by more than 100 people, some of whom were participating in a nudist party.

The closure was prompted by the unauthorized business activities and safety risks rather than the nature of the event itself. The business owner faces potential fines of up to 6,266 dollars or between five and eight unified basic remunerations (RBU) for the misuse of the LUAE.
