Quito authorities investigate dog trapped in hot asphalt

Municipal authorities in Quito have launched an investigation following the rescue of a dog that became trapped in hot asphalt during repaving works on the Ruta Viva corridor. The animal was rescued by the Fundación Amigos de Lucas, which reported that the dog suffered burns and injuries due to direct contact with the industrial material.

The dog is currently under continuous veterinary care to treat its physical damage. In response to the incident, the Metropolitan Public Company of Mobility and Public Works (Epmmop) has contacted the rescue organization to gather field information. The agency stated it will apply administrative sanctions if negligence is verified, noting that safety protocols are in place for workers, drivers, and urban fauna.

The Animal Welfare Unit (UBA) has also conducted an inspection of the area to collect material evidence and verify the circumstances of the event to support potential legal or administrative actions.
