Quito Bridge Decapitated Body Found in Llano Chico Neighborhood

On 29 July 2026, authorities in north Quito discovered a decapitated male body hanging from a bridge on Avenida Simón Bolívar in the Llano Chico sector. The victim’s head was found roughly 200‑300 metres away along the same avenue, prompting the closure of the bridge and traffic congestion while investigators worked.

Police, aided by the Criminalistics Directorate and the Directorate of Crimes against Life, opened a homicide investigation. Officials suspect the killing is tied to a dispute between organized‑crime groups over territorial control, with possible involvement of the Los Lobos gang. The victim’s identity has not been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
