Quito court sentences individual to prison for assaulting traffic agent

The Provincial Court of Justice of Pichincha has sentenced an individual to two years and eight months in prison for assaulting a Civil Traffic Agent in Quito. The incident occurred on August 28, 2023, in the IESS Quito Sur sector while the official was performing traffic control duties.

The assault resulted in a skull fracture and an incapacity period ranging from nine to 30 days. Following an appeal by the Metropolitan Transit Agency (AMT), the Specialized Chamber of Criminal, Military, Police, and Traffic Law determined the defendant's responsibility for the crime of attack or resistance. In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a fine equivalent to 10 unified basic salaries and a $2,000 integral reparation payment.
