Quito dealership closed amid allegations of vehicle scams
The Metropolitan Control Agency (AMC) has closed a vehicle dealership in the Kennedy sector of northern Quito, Ecuador, for operating without required municipal permits. The establishment was located on Galo Plaza Lasso Avenue.
During the intervention, several customers gathered outside to demand refunds for payments made toward vehicle purchases. Victims reported paying amounts up to 4,500 USD under the promise of receiving a vehicle immediately or within two days. They alleged that once deadlines passed, the business provided various excuses to delay delivery, such as pending documentation, absent staff, or new requirements.
Some customers also claimed that the same vehicle had been sold to multiple people. While the AMC closed the business due to regulatory violations, the agency noted that allegations of fraud must be investigated and filed with the Prosecutor's Office.
