Bogotá Metro workers' protest disrupts TransMilenio service

On the morning of 8 July 2026, Metro workers involved in the First Line project staged a blockade along Avenida Caracas in Bogotá. The action halted bus‑etapas on the TransMilenio corridor, forced the temporary closure of several stations—including Calle 76, Flores, Calle 57, Marly, Calle 45 and Calle 34—and required buses to use detour routes such as Calle 76 and the NQS. Thousands of commuters were left to walk, seek alternative routes or arrive late to work.

City authorities began reopening stations progressively by mid‑morning, but delays persisted for several hours. The protest highlights ongoing tensions over labour and policy issues that have repeatedly affected Bogotá’s mass‑transit system, underscoring the city’s dependence on TransMilenio for daily mobility.
