Quito launches 12‑km road rehabilitation around Metro stations

The Quito municipality began a 12‑kilometre road rehabilitation program around five Metro stations – San Francisco, La Carolina, Iñaquito, Alameda and El Ejido – with work scheduled to run until March 2027. The contract, worth $6.5 million, covers 86 road segments and includes full asphalt replacement, drainage repair, new surfacing and updated signage. The first phase started this week, addressing 14 sections (3.4 km) and will progress at roughly one kilometre per month over nine phases.

From 2 July 2026, 14 streets connecting to the Metro will be temporarily closed for the works, with alternate routes provided. The municipality estimates that the project will benefit up to 800 000 residents in Quito’s central‑north neighborhoods, improving mobility for drivers, pedestrians and public‑transport users.
