Quito Luz de América Festival Cancelled, Hits Tourism

The Quito Luz de América light and video‑mapping festival, slated for August 7‑9 in the historic centre of Quito, was cancelled after the public tourism agency Quito Turismo failed to complete the required technical and logistical contracts in time. Organisers cited bureaucratic delays as the reason for the suspension.

Local merchants, hotels, restaurants and tour operators had prepared for an influx of thousands of visitors, expecting significant revenue based on the 2025 edition that generated over $13 million in sales and attracted about 365 000 people. The abrupt cancellation threatens earnings for businesses in the historic district, including venues such as the San Francisco Church and the Basilica of the Voto Nacional. Quito Turismo indicated a possible new date in October, pending the resolution of the procurement process.
