Quito Metro passenger faces fine for fare evasion and aggression

A man, appearing to be intoxicated, entered the El Ejido station of the Quito Metro without paying or validating his fare on Thursday, August 27, 2026. When system personnel attempted to intervene, the individual reportedly reacted aggressively by shouting and striking glass surfaces.

The National Police intervened during the incident. Following the event, the Metropolitan Control Agency (AMC) initiated an administrative sanctioning procedure. Under municipal regulations, entering the platforms without payment is classified as a very serious infraction.

The individual faces a potential fine equivalent to 100% of a Unified Basic Salary, which amounts to 482 USD for 2026. While the administrative process has begun, the final fine has not yet been officially imposed, as the resolution depends on the outcome of the investigation.
