Quito: Romanian tourist shot during armed robbery
A 60-year-old Romanian tourist was shot in the right thigh during an armed robbery in the Iñaquito sector of northern Quito, Ecuador. The incident occurred on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at approximately 17:30 in a commercial establishment located near the intersection of Avenida República de El Salvador and Suecia.
According to police reports, an armed individual entered the premises and attempted to rob the victim. When the tourist resisted the theft, the assailant used a revolver to shoot him before fleeing the scene. The victim, identified in some reports as Alexeev Victor, received first aid from the Quito Fire Department and was subsequently transported to a medical facility. His condition is reported to be stable.
Local police responded to alerts sent via community chat groups. Investigators are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the establishment to identify the suspect, described as having a tanned complexion and a heavy build. Judicial police have launched an investigation and deployed operations in the surrounding area to locate the perpetrator.
