Quito to close 43 streets for June 21 athletics race
The Metropolitan Transit Agency (AMT) announced that on Sunday 21 June 2026, Quito will implement temporary road closures for a scheduled athletics race. Around 43 main and secondary streets will be shut from 05:00 a.m., with the competition starting at 07:00 a.m. and expected to finish near 09:00 a.m.
Key avenues affected include Amazonas, República, Naciones Unidas, Tomás de Berlanga, Gaspar de Villarroel, Río Coca, and El Inca. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes such as Avenida 10 de Agosto, América, Patria, De los Shyris, 6 de Diciembre, Eloy Alfaro, and De la Prensa. The AMT urged citizens to plan trips in advance and obey traffic officers posted along the circuit.
The closures aim to minimise disruption while the race traverses several of Quito’s principal thoroughfares.
