Quito traffic and vehicle registration disruptions
Quito is experiencing significant transit and administrative disruptions. A sinkhole on Eloy Alfaro Avenue near Higuera Street in northern Quito has forced road closures at the intersections of Rio Coca Avenue and De los Granados Avenue. The Metropolitan Transit Agency (AMT) and the public water utility (Epmaps) are conducting repairs, restricting southbound to northbound traffic. Drivers are advised to use alternative routes such as De los Granados Avenue, Calle De los Laureles, and Calle De las Buganvillas.
Separately, the AMT has resumed vehicle registration processes following technical failures in the National Transit Agency’s (ANT) integrated system. The outage, which began on October 13, resulted in a backlog of approximately 1,900 new vehicle registrations. To address the delay, authorities are working extended hours and seeking authorization to access systems outside regular schedules to clear the backlog.
