Quito water reservoirs reach nearly 100% capacity
The four primary reservoirs supplying drinking water to Quito, Ecuador, have reached storage levels exceeding 99% of their useful volume, according to monitoring data from the Metropolitan Public Company of Potable Water (Epmaps).
The reservoirs involved include La Mica, Salve Faccha, Sucus, and Mogotes, which together hold a useful capacity of approximately 38.6 million cubic meters. Specifically, La Mica is at 99.99% capacity, while Salve Faccha, Sucus, and Mogotes are at 99.98% and 99.99%.
The Salve Faccha, Sucus, and Mogotes reservoirs are part of the Papallacta system located within the Cayambe-Coca Ecological Reserve at an altitude of approximately 3,900 meters. This system feeds the Bellavista and Paluguillo treatment plants. The La Mica system, located in the south, collects water from the Antisana, Jatunhuayco, and Diguchi rivers to supply the El Troje treatment plant.
