Quito woman suspected in poisoning of five dogs and a cat

Authorities in Quito are investigating the deaths of at least four dogs and a cat in the La Ecuatoriana neighborhood of the city's south. Security‑camera footage showed a woman dropping food on the street, after which the animals approached, consumed the food and soon exhibited severe reactions, including convulsions and foam from the mouth, leading to their deaths.

The Unidad de Bienestar Animal (UBA) is gathering evidence and testimonies. One line of inquiry suggests the act may be a retaliation linked to personal conflicts, though this remains unconfirmed. No arrests have been made, and the investigation continues. The UBA reminded that animal cruelty is a serious offense punishable by a fine of ten basic unified salaries.
