Kosovo faces political crisis over unconstituted Assembly
Kosovo is facing a deepening political crisis as the Assembly fails to constitute within the constitutionally mandated 30-day period. The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) has characterized this delay as a direct blow to the constitutional order, warning that they will defend the rule of law by any means necessary.
Political leaders are divided on the path forward. Avni Dehari, presiding over the constitutive session, has indicated that further sessions will not be called as mere formalities until a political agreement is reached to resolve the deadlock. Meanwhile, PDK deputy Rrustem Mustafa has called for a grand coalition between the two largest political forces, PDK and Vetëvendosje (VV), arguing that such a partnership is a state necessity to ensure functional institutions and economic stability.
Other political actors have expressed varying degrees of concern. Alliance deputy Albana Bytyqi suggested that public protests might be the only remaining option, while Acting Minister Mimoza Kusari-Lila warned that the institutional vacuum is causing significant anxiety among citizens, the diaspora, and the business community, potentially threatening investment security in the country.
