Quảng Ngãi sand trucks use modified pipes to discharge water onto roads

Sand transport trucks in Quảng Ngãi province have been observed discharging water and mud onto public roads, creating safety hazards and environmental pollution. Investigations revealed that some drivers use sophisticated, self-made pipe systems hidden under the vehicle chassis to direct water toward the wheels, an attempt to bypass detection by authorities.

These incidents have been documented on several routes, including National Highway 24B, National Highway 1A, and DT623B, particularly near sand mines along the Trà Khúc River. The continuous flow of water and sludge from heavy trucks poses significant risks to traffic safety and road conditions.

The Quảng Ngãi Traffic Police Department stated that such modifications do not exempt drivers from penalties. Under current regulations, drivers transporting loose materials who allow water, sand, or dirt to spill onto the road can face fines ranging from 2 to 4 million VND. Authorities have urged transport units to ensure proper covering of cargo and to refrain from unauthorized vehicle modifications.
