Quảng Ninh driver charged in fatal hit-and-run accident

Authorities in Quảng Ninh City have initiated criminal proceedings against Nguyễn Tuấn Đạt, born in 1998, for violating road traffic regulations. The charges follow a fatal accident on August 31, 2026, on National Highway 18.

According to investigative documents, Đạt was driving a vehicle toward the Ao Cá intersection when he failed to observe surroundings or reduce speed, striking Bùi Việt Dũng (born 1978) near a parked crane truck. Although Mr. Dũng was rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries later that morning.

Đạt admitted to consuming significant amounts of beer during dinner and karaoke before operating the vehicle. Following the collision, which caused visible damage to his car, Đạt fled the scene and attempted to hide evidence by taking the vehicle to a repair shop. He has since surrendered to the Quảng Ninh Provincial Police and confessed to the actions.
