Quảng Ninh expands cruise tourism via Ha Long port

Quảng Ninh province is actively expanding its cruise tourism sector, leveraging its advanced maritime infrastructure to attract international travelers. The Ha Long International Cruise Port serves as a primary hub, having been recognized as Asia’s leading cruise port by the World Travel Awards for the fourth time in 2026.

Data from the first nine months of 2026 shows that Quảng Ninh welcomed 49 international cruise ships, carrying nearly 59,000 passengers. In the third quarter of 2026 alone, five ships brought over 8,100 visitors to the region. This growth aligns with broader trends in Southeast Asia, where the cruise industry is projected to generate over $10 billion in economic output. Local authorities aim to convert short-term cruise visitors into long-term land-based tourists to maximize economic benefits.
