Quảng Ninh Province Proposes New 55‑km Highway Linking Hai Phong–Ha Long Route to Belt Road 5

Quảng Ninh Province has submitted a proposal to add a 55‑kilometre highway that would connect the existing Hai Phong‑Ha Long – Móng Cái expressway with the Belt Road 5 (Vành đai 5) corridor in the Hanoi metropolitan area. The planned route would start at the Hạ Long Xanh interchange in Tuần Châu, Quảng Ninh, and terminate at the Trần Nhân Tông junction in Hải Phòng, featuring six lanes and a design speed of 100‑120 km/h.

The project is intended to be integrated with the Belt Road 5 network, which spans about 349 km across seven northern provinces and cities. Parallel to the mainline, a four‑lane auxiliary road is being built on both sides of the route, expected to be completed by 2026. Funding is to come from the provincial budget after land‑acquisition work has largely been finished. Authorities anticipate that the new highway will improve regional connectivity, support economic development in the north‑eastern region, and enhance national defence and security capabilities.
