Quảng Trị begins construction of Nguyễn Văn Thạc memorial

Construction has commenced on the “Nguyễn Văn Thạc and comrades memorial: Forever twenty years old” in Quảng Trị province, Vietnam. The memorial is being built at the site in Nam Long village, Ái Tử commune, which marks the original sacrifice and burial location of martyr Nguyễn Văn Thạc and three of his comrades.

With a total budget of 2.8 billion VND funded by Petrolimex, the project covers approximately 300 square meters. The site will include a memorial house, landscaping, greenery, a main gate, and perimeter walls. The grounds will also feature information boards detailing the life and ideals of Nguyễn Văn Thạc, whose wartime diaries were published as the influential work “Forever twenty years old.”

The project is a collaborative effort between the Quảng Trị Provincial Youth Union, the Government Youth Union, and local authorities. Construction is scheduled to take place from September 2026 through the second quarter of 2027, aiming to create a space for honoring the fallen and educating younger generations on historical traditions.
