R. Madhavan's GDN Biopic on Inventor G.D. Naidu Releases Worldwide on Aug 7

The Tamil‑language biopic “GDN”, chronicling the life of Indian inventor and industrial pioneer G.D. Naidu – often called the “Edison of India” – is set to open in theatres worldwide on 7 August. The film stars R. Madhavan as Naidu and is directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar. It is produced by Varghese Moolan Pictures in partnership with Madhavan’s Tricolour Films. Supporting cast members include Sathyaraj (as Ramaiah Pillai), Jayaram, Vinay Rai, Dushara Vijayan, Priyamani, and others. The project has been promoted with a trailer that highlights Naidu’s inventions, his transport network UMS, and his challenges with tax authorities. Madhavan has explained his attraction to biopics, noting his interest in “unsung Indian heroes” such as Naidu and former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan. The film will be released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi, with music by Govind Vasantha and cinematography by Aravind Kamalanathan. Promotional events across South India have generated strong anticipation, and the release is expected to draw significant box‑office interest in India and among diaspora audiences.
