Žďár nad Sázavou council fails to elect new mayor

The inaugural meeting of the Žďár nad Sázavou municipal council ended without the election of a new mayor or city leadership. Although all 27 council members attended and took their oaths, the session was adjourned after less than thirty minutes due to a lack of consensus on coalition formation.

Disagreements center on the potential inclusion of the ANO movement in a four-party coalition. While the winning movement, Žďár živé město, has discussed a coalition including ANO, KDU-ČSL, and MY pro Žďár, internal divisions within Žďár živé město and opposition from the ODS party have stalled progress. The ODS has stated it refuses to cooperate with ANO.

Negotiations are expected to continue, with a follow-up meeting scheduled for Wednesday, November 11, to attempt the election of the mayor, deputy mayors, city council, and committees.
